Jumper’s knee

Patellar tendinitis, or jumper’s knee, is a relatively common cause of pain in the inferior patellar region, especially with athletes. Jumper’s knee commonly occurs in athletes who are involved in jumping sports such as handball, basketball and volleyball, or other sports that involve sudden direction changes. Depending on the duration of symptoms, jumper’s knee is classified into 1 of the following 4 stages: Pain only after activity Pain during and after activity Prolonged pain during and after activity, with increasing difficulty performing satisfactorily Complete tendon tear needing surgical repair It starts as inflammation in the patellar tendon where it [...]

Epicondylitis

Epicondylitis is a form of musculoskeletal disorder that refers to an inflammation in the lateral or medial epicondyle. In some variations, it is also known as tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow or mouse arm. Tennis elbow is caused by inflammation in the elbow and forearm, resulting in pain and soreness. The pain originates in the bone in the outer part of the elbow (lateral epicondyle) where the muscles that bend the hand backwards and stretch the fingers are attached. It is most often caused by repetitive stress and overuse at the muscle-tendon junction, forceful, repetitive, or akward motions, such as [...]

Wounds

Different types of wounds, such as leg ulcers, bed sores, and wounds from surgery, can all be treated with laser therapy. As early as the 1960’s, during experiments with mice, scientists discovered by coincidence that low doses of laser had healing effects on wounds. I took care of a gentleman, 80 years old, who had taken a fall and hurt his right shoulder. Initially, I administered traditional wound care products, in accordance with the treatment plan from the patient’s physician and the wound care clinic. In total, the course of treatment took more than two years. During the course, [...]

Shingles

Shingles, or Herpes Zoster in Latin, is caused by the varicella-zoster virus. This type of virus causes chicken pox, and shingles is the result of a reactivation of the chicken pox virus, often several years following the original infection. Early symptoms of herpes zoster are vague, such as headache, fever, and malaise. The initial phase of the condition is most often followed by the appearance of the characteristic skin rash. The pain and rash most commonly occurs on the torso, but can appear on the face, eyes or other parts of the body. Laser therapy has proven to be [...]

Acne

Acne and pimples are a common skin disorder, caused by plugged hair follicles in the face and on the chest. Several patients have seen improvement and a reduction in the extent of their acne or pimples after treatment with laser therapy.

Blisters

Blisters can be quite painful, if not treated. Blisters are pockets of fluid that can occur in different places on the body depending on how they are generated. They can occur from too much mechanical friction or pressure on the skin. Most people have experienced blisters on their feet due to new or too small shoes, but they can also occur on your hands because of manual labor such as gardening or other work where you tend to use your hands a lot or just intensely for a short time – especially if you are not used to it. [...]

Sprain

A sprain occurs when you damage a ligament or other soft parts surrounding a joint. Sprains can vary greatly in severity from simple sprains to severe ligament damage. Signs of a sprain are oedema, pain and difficulty moving the particular body part. Sprains occur when a joint stretches beyond its normal capacity, either from pulling or a sudden motion. You will experience oedema and pain in the joint and sometimes see discoloration under the skin; red, blue, and possibly yellow. In mild cases, pain and oedema occur after a few hours, in severe cases, they occur immediately. Sprains often [...]

Pulled muscle

Pulled muscles occur when one or more muscle fibers in a muscle are torn. The injury results in swelling (oedema) and sharp pain. If the muscle has been completely ruptured, you will not be able to move the damaged muscle. A pulled muscle is usually treated by use of the RICE principle (rest, ice, compression, elevation) in the first 24 hours. Then, it is recommended that you rest the muscle for a few days and then slowly and gently begin rehabilitation. Laser therapy can be used as a supplement to the treatment of a pulled muscle. Laser treatment will [...]

Can you apply too large a dose of laser therapy?

Laser therapy is added energy to the cells. The biologic effect related to the amount of added energy is described by the so-called Arndt-Shulz law, shown in the picture. arndt schultz law The curve shows that adding a small amount of energy yields a small amount of power, a broad-range medium amount of energy results in a positive, biologic effect, while adding a very large amount of energy provides a biologic inhibition. This has been well-known for years, but in practice it has been almost impossible to reach the inhibitory part of the curve, simply because the laser devices [...]

Laser therapy – Class 4 or 3B

More is always better, right? Not always, when it comes to laser therapy. Among scientists, in journals, on the internet, and among the practitioners who use laser therapy, it is a continuous discussion whether you achieve better results when you use more powerful lasers. Manufacturers of Class 4 lasers claim that you do while those who offer Class 3B lasers say the opposite. Let us examine some of the facts regarding the differences in the treatment with these two types of lasers. Laser classes Lasers for medical use are divided into different classes: 1 (up to 1 mW/cm2), 2 [...]

Laser therapy supplemented with red and blue LED

Many practitioners are aware that laser therapy accelerates the natural healing process, and many of them also know that light therapy has been used for various healing purposes for many years. On certain laser models, PowerMedic Lasers combine different types of light to give practitioners new treatment options. Laser light has specific characteristics, it is monochromatic (only one wavelength) and coherent (emitted in coordinated light waves for maximum transmission of energy). The PowerLaser and the GigaLaser both emit laser light at 808nm, the wavelength that best penetrates the tissue in the body. The laser light penetrates into the muscles, [...]

Laser therapy as an alternative to medicine

Laser treatment has proven to be a highly effective form of treatment, when it comes to pain management and the treatment of serious skin problems. At PowerMedic, we have been working with the development and production of laser therapy equipment since 1982, and we have the largest experience in the field, in Denmark. We deliver technological solutions that help soothe and heal diseases in both humans and animals. And our overall goal is to develop tools that health professionals can use to promote the natural healing process. Laser treatment may sound very technical to many people, but really it [...]

Pain relief with laser therapy

Pain can take many forms, depending on the nature and strength of the pain. One of the methods that has proven very effective is pain relief with laser therapy. The pain-relieving effect occurs partly because the treatment reduces the problem that caused the pain in the first place. And partly because laser therapy stimulates the body’s production of enkephalins and endorphins. Pain relief from cold laser has no known side effects. You could say that laser therapy helps the body heal but that the body is already programmed to heal itself. In addition to its pain relieving effect, laser [...]
